Adoption Attorney Career Information
Are you interested in law as a career? Are you considering attending law school? Perhaps you have already begun your studies but are not sure what area of law you'd like to specialize in. One of the most rewarding areas of law is adoption law. If you enjoy helping others then pursuing an adoption attorney career might be the perfect choice for you. As an adoption attorney, you will be helping orphaned children find homes. You will be helping potential parents who want to adopt a child make their dream come true. There's little else in the world of law that is as satisfying as that. Like all forms of law, adoption law can be a lucrative choice as well.
The average adoption can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 and you can bet the attorney gets his or her share. People who are desperate to adopt a child are willing to pay this kind of money to make their adoption dream a reality. In addition to being lucrative, adoption law is rewarding and challenging. There are different kinds of adoptions you can deal with. For example, if you enjoy international law, then handling international adoptions might be right up your alley.
Another area of specialization is private domestic adoption. With private domestic adoption, you help adoptive parents adopt a newborn directly from the birth mother without the use of an agency. Almost two thirds of all newborns adopted in the United States are done so via private domestic adoption. Regardless of what kind of adoption law you want to practice, you will need the proper education. A legal education can take up to eight years. You will need four years of college and three to four years of law school. You will also need to pass the bar exam. And, you will need to intern with another adoption lawyer.
The decision to purse an adoption attorney career is one that can change your entire life. The road might seem long, but eight years is nothing when you think of the decades you'll be practicing. The money you spend on your education will be returned to you time and time again when you choose a law career. If you are unsure about whether or not adoption law is right for you, speak to an educational advisor. Even a guidance counselor can help you decide whether law in general is a good career choice for you.
